In the 1996-97 school year, I became the counselor for Simms Independent School District. I retired in 2014 and was rehired as a part-time counselor. I have seen many changes during my time as the counselor, and last year, I had the pleasure of teaching high school art.
I began my career in education working in the Texarkana Independent School District in 1983, as an after-school tutor. That same year, the principal at Mooringsport Elementary School, in the Caddo Parish School District, called and offered me a teaching position. I taught there for seven years.
In 1990, I began teaching for Liberty-Eylau Independent School District and remained there until 1996.
Two of my four children attended James Bowie Schools. Joshua Owens, the youngest of the four, graduated in 2001.
